10 Scandinavian Must Haves For Your Thanksgiving Table

Digs Digs

I'm really into keeping my holiday decor minimal, modern and simple this year. Less is more is my motto! When I think of these three design concepts, I can't help but think of all things Scandinavian, a design style that emphasizes simplicity and a stripping down to fundamental elements, colors and textures. Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I decided to get crackin' and search out some inspiring Scandinavian holiday decor ideas. In doing so, I came across some stunning spaces. If your'e in a similar mindset and love Scandinavian design, you'll want to take a look. These are definitely Scandinavian must-haves for your Thanksgiving table!

1. White Candles
White is the epitome of simplicity and minimalism. What better way to keep things simple than using white candles? For a little Scandinavian rural flair, incorporate rustic woods, vintage items and galvanized metal.

 2. Chairs
Chairs are a major focal point of Scandinavian interiors. From mid-century modern like Gubi and Eames to an eclectic mix of contemporary and vintage, chairs can make a simple yet powerful impact. The statement can be, "I like to keep things simple and clean," to "I'm not into cookie-cutter style and prefer to be unique." Best of all, the mix and match Scandinavian style can be done inexpensively just by visiting a thrift store or a tag sale.

3. Natural Elements
Natural elements like woods, greens, leaves and even fruits and vegetables are often used in Nordic tablescapes. The people of Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway are deeply connected to the outdoors. What better way is there to represent this than incorporating nature's own decor into your tablescape? Scandinavian design is all about keeping it authentic, natural and simple!

4. White
If you have white candles, white linens and white tableware, then this is a slam dunk. A milky white table is the epitome of Scandinavian style. White is classic and reflects a light-filled, minimal space. To keep your table from feeling cold, use different textures like wood and natural textiles to soften the hues.

6. Grey
Consider decorating your table with grey. It's one of the most widely used colors in modern Scandinavian interiors. Grey provides a neutral monochrome appeal and is very calming.

7. Black
Using black and white is a very pared-back simple technique of Scandinavian design. Using high contrasts are the hallmark of Scandinavian design. Minimalist black accents create a dramatic impactful statement.

8. Hygge
Scandinavians know how to showcase a modern interior while also making it warm and inviting. Adding a bit of hygge (the Scandinavian concept of creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life) through layering makes a space feel cozy and homey. Layer with sheepskin, blankets, firewood and a roaring fire.

10. Hanging Green Chandelier
The Scandinavian-style greenery "chandelier" is an eye-catching way to draw guests to your holiday table. Rustic elements like evergreens, pine cones, dried flowers and berries reflect the Nordic emphasis on nature. The candles bring much-desired light during those long Nordic winters.
