Recently on my Instagram feed, I've been featuring lots and lots of chairs. Why am I so attracted to chairs? Butterfly chairs, Eames chairs, Saddle chairs and just chairs, chairs, chairs. I think I'm so captivated by them because I'm so amazed how a simple chair can have so many different forms and functions. And the art!!!! They are such a normal everyday object in every home, yet they can be a statement maker, a show stopper, a piece of art. I am really loving the variations in designs and the amazing style. Here are some of my fav's...
The butterfly chair, known also as the BKF chair
or Hardoy chair (named for Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy) is a style of chair featuring a tubular frame and a
large sling hung from the frame's highest points, creating a suspended
seat. It is so casual looking yet so amazing!
I am so fascinated by the beautiful Shell
Chair created by Danish designer Hans J. Wegner in 1963. Also
sometimes known as the "smiling chair" it achieves a floating lightness
due to its arching curves and wing-like seat. I am gaga over the brown
and white cowhide version.
The Silla Trenzada Saddle Chair from Jan Barboglio is
breathtaking with its hand forged iron base and woven English Brindle
leather saddle seat. It is so sophisticated and stylish.
Now here's a show stopper! The Redford House Manhattan Chair. It is absolutely gorgeous. I love the soft pink leather with the antique gold metal
finish. So stunning.
The wire-lattice diamond chair is another favorite! These airy seats are
sculpted from steel rods. They were designed by sculptor Harry
Bertoia. They look so delicate and light but so strong in design.
Then there's the Eames rocker. The Eames chair was designed by Americans
Charles and Bernice Alexandra "Ray" Eames. It is a staple in
Scandinavian design. This rocker version is a mid-century
masterpiece.
Despite the name, the Gubi Beetle chair is also quite captivating. Inspired by the anatomy
of the beetle, GamFratesi for GUBI reinterprets its hard shell and the
soft interior. The result is a delicate mid-century feel. The soft velvet upholstery is so marvelous.
And lastly, one of the most recognized chairs of the last century is the Barcelona Chair. Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, it epitomizes modern design. Van der Rohe used leather straps to suspend leather covered cushions from a chrome plated steel frame. It is simple and elegant. I love it in the brown. Just gorgeous!!
